PPP at Artis, 2009

The People Power Pill®™. A cool idea came from Koert (NL) and José (POR) during the intensive program Artists in Residence at Artis Den Bosch in The Netherlands. Realizing how smart this was and how wonderful this work could become with appropriate and needed support, I without any hesitation joined them.
This is a really great work since it approaches, reveals, even ‘attacks’ many facets of our actual life -and this is exactly why I joined to work on this. On the leaflet in the box you would find the description, dosage and all ‘patient information’ of the ‘pill’, in different languages. What is so smart of this leaflet? It is translated using the google-translator! (Ever heard from a professor who complains that his/her students just don’t go to the library anymore because there are -free- services like Wikipedia and the online translator?).
The follow-up idea is to exhibit and give these boxes to people in different countries, and this is on the May Day -Labor Day the 1st of May. (This is perhaps not very fantastic anymore if you live in a country that respects the rights of the people, but in countries like Indonesia, you can even get jailed to celebrate this day). If you are willing to be a contact person in your country, just let me know and I will send you all documents needed to make the boxes.

May you have a happy, healthy and fulfilled 2010!

Ongoing internship at the SMAK Ghent

Saturday, November 28th, 2009

As a part of the master study at the KASK Ghent, I am doing my internship at the Museum for Contemporary Art in Ghent, Belgium. My internship supervisors are three people who are very passionate about art: Dirk Pauwels -house photographer of the museum, Frank Maes -chef curator, and Willem Vermoere from the KASK.
The first ten pictures were taken during the visit to the Vleeshal and De Kabinetten van de Vleeshal in Middelburg, Holland. The director of the SBKM (the Middelburg foundation for visual arts), Lorenzo Benedetti, guided us through the exhibitions. After that visit we were welcomed at the house of Loek Grootjans, a Holland artist well known for his “Foundation For The Benefit Of The Aspiration And The Understanding Of Context”. End of January 2010 he would present three works at the SMAK in Ghent.
